Nonprofit Management & Leadership: Information for Contributors
|
Nonprofit Management and Leadership welcomes queries or finished papers from both scholars and practitioners. Submitted papers should be 4,000 to 5,000 words in length and based on original research or theory of organizations and management. Papers should be written in a jargon-free, nontechnical style accessible to managers, trustees, and other leaders of nonprofit and voluntary organizations as well as academic researchers and teachers from a variety of disciplines. The focus should be on some aspect of nonprofit organization management or leadership, especially governance, management of human resources, resource development and financial management, strategy and management of change, and organizational effectiveness. Readers’ reactions to articles and features of NML are also welcomed. Please send your observations in the form of a one-page letter for possible publication in the Commentary section. Authors are also encouraged to submit short case studies (2,500 words or less) for the Feature section.
Manuscripts and comments should be sent to Roger A. Lohmann, Editor Nonprofit Management and Leadership Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations Case Western Reserve University 10900 Euclid Avenue Cleveland, Ohio 44106-7167 Manuscript Preparation Type all copy double-spaced—including references and extracts—leaving margins at least one inch wide. Use letter-quality printers rather than dot matrix and type or print on one side only of high-quality nonerasable bond paper. The title page should include the title of the article, the names and primary affiliations of the author(s), and a brief abstract. To facilitate the blind review process, make sure information about authors appears only on the title page. Spell out e.g., i.e., et al., . . . to their English equivalents and avoid complex mathematical symbols when possible. Citations and References. Do not use footnotes. For literature citations in text, supply author surname and date of publication and include the original page number for each direct quotation and statistic. For example: Knight (1973) or Knight and Jones (1975, p. 74). Provide a double-spaced alphabetized list of only those references cited in the text, using the following style: Journal Article: Aussieker, B., and Garbarino, J. W. “Measuring Faculty Unionism: Quantity and Quality.” Industrial Relations, 1973, 12(1), 117–124. Book: Abbot, F. C. Government Policy and Higher Education. Ithaca, N.Y.: Cornell University Press, 1958. Chapter in a Book: Riesman, D., and Jencks, C. “The Viability of the American College.” In N. Sanford (ed.), The American College: A Psychological and Social Interpretation of Higher Learning. New York: Wiley, 1962. Refer to current issues of NML for additional guidance. Figures and Tables. Clean copies of figures should accompany the manuscript. Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, authors should provide camera-ready artwork (original illustrations or good-quality photographic reprints). Tables should be typed double-spaced on separate pages and table notes should be keyed to the body of the table with letters rather than numbers or asterisks. All figures and tables should have short descriptive titles. Publication Process After a manuscript is accepted for publication, authors are asked to sign a letter of agreement granting the publisher the right to copyedit, publish, and copyright the material. The editor is responsible for proofreading each issue and will only contact authors if clarification is needed; copyedited manuscripts will not be returned to authors. Authors must ensure the accuracy of all statements—particularly data, quotations, and references—before submitting manuscripts. |
