FAQ1: My research team is just completing a large study. Can we do a NDCAD volume with chapters that report on findings from one study?
A: We would be interested in this type of volume if each chapter presents an important conceptual contribution and these, as a group, are organized around a focal question, issue, or idea. Of course these conceptual contributions are stronger if they are based on data, and there could be benefits from having all chapter come from the same study. We are much less interested, however, if what you have in mind are empirical articles that that are driven more by particularistic findings (e.g., examination of age, gender, SES, and ethnic differences for disparate variables) than by ideas.

FAQ2: Can a graduate student be a sole or lead author?
A: Graduate students generally have less experience with the type of conceptual work that is the fare of NDCAD. We will accept proposals that have one or occasionally two graduate students as a lead author, in cases where the prospective editors are confidant that they have that capability. Graduate students are frequently second or third authors on articles.

FAQ3: Can all or most authors come from one institution?
A: We think hybrid vigor is gained by bringing together authors from different lineages and would be hesitant to accept a proposal with all authors from one institution, unless all or most of the authors were scholars with strong independent records of work.
