Beverly Burnley earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Harris Stowe Teachers College in St. Louis, Missouri. As a Title I teacher in the East St. Louis (Illinois) public schools, she has used models and representations to teach mathematics to gifted and remedial students in grades 1 through 6 for more than thirty-three years. While instructing entire classrooms in a computer lab environment, she created a unique teaching strategy that supports the math standards and increases students' computer proficiency levels.
Ms. Burnley has presented this strategy for professional development workshops at the St. Clair County (Illinois) Regional Office of Education and now describes it for teachers across the country in her new book, Hands-On Computer Activities for Teaching Math.
