There are over forty thousand unique private foundations in the United States, with total assets of approximately $300 billion. As these foundations grow in number and size, it is increasingly important for grantseekers to understand their missions and modes of operation. This volume of New Directions for Philanthropic Fundraising offers insights into the changes taking place in different types of foundations, including special-purpose, regional, community, and international foundations.
